Stefan Knopp


Sedimentology Ph.D. candidate

Stefan Knopp was born in Munich, Germany, and received a diploma in Geology from the Ludwig-Maximillians-University Muenchen. Stefan worked for six years in various aspects of environmental science before moving to Calgary in August 2007, to commence a Ph.D. at the University of Calgary. His research centers on the field of sedimentology, and he is undertaking a comparative study between Jurassic sandstones in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin and outcrops of silica-cemented, fluvial successions in Utah, USA. Stefan is an outdoor enthusiast with interests in climbing, hiking, mountain biking as well as motor biking. He is currently restoring a 4X4 Volkswagen Camper which will transport him to explore all the remote places this continent has to offer.
