Burgess Shale Geoscience Foundation Guide, David Moore

David Moore

M.Sc. Geology

David Moore’s lifelong fascination with paleontology and evolution began at an early age – as a child, he collected rocks and fossils in eastern Canada. After several years pursuing a career far removed from the rocks, David returned to his first love, moving to Alberta to study geology at the University of Calgary. While undertaking his M.Sc. in geology, he began guiding for the Foundation – that was back in 1996. Working for several energy companies in Calgary, David has enjoyed a successful career exploring for unconventional gas in Canada and around the world. He has taught popular courses on unconventional gas in Canada, has presented at numerous technical conferences and has lectured on Earth and Life History to general audiences. His engaging style and sense of humor have introduced many people to the wonders of geology, paleontology and to scientific exploration. David is a certified Apprentice Interpretive Guide with the Interpretive Guides Association. David Moore is also a member of the Board of Directors.

Simon Haynes Headshot

Burgess Shale Geoscience Foundation Guide, Lida Goldchteine

Lida Goldchteine

BSc. Geophysics

Lida has been interested in geological processes from an early age from her geologist mother who was an avid collector of rocks, minerals and fossils. Even though Lida received a degree in Geophysics and worked as a geophysicist in downtown Calgary exploring for oil and gas, she kept her childhood passion and curiosity for geology. In 2015 Lida left a successful geophysical career to spend more time on her other passion – shallow ocean marine life.  She has been scuba diving in the Caribbean and living and scuba diving in the Galapagos Islands. Upon her return from travels Lida joined the Burgess Shale Geoscience Foundation, first as an assistant guide and then as a full guide in 2016, combining both of her passions – Geology/Geophysics and warm water marine life. In her spare time Lida enjoys hiking, mountain biking and back-country skiing. Lida is a certified Apprentice Interpretive Guide with the Interpretive Guides Association. Lida is also a member of the Board of Directors.
